Getting Started

It is hard enough to decide whether to file bankruptcy. That’s why we try to make filing as simple as possible for our clients. Here are four basic steps to help you get started:

1.)    Call or email us to set up an appointment for your free initial consultation.

(if you are not sure you need to file right away, or if you have any question you want us to answer before you file you are welcome to come in an discuss your situation with us before getting started.)

2.)    Go to www.stopmybills.com and start gathering the information that the law requires us to have before we can file your case. “BBBankruptcy” is the login (that’s “bankruptcy” spelled with three B’s – it’s the same as our website.) Your social security number is your password.

(it is important to us that our clients feel safe about providing their personal information online. We use www.stopmybills.com because it is a secure and confidential website. As you answer the online questionnaire at www.stopmybills.com, Don’t worry if you are not sure how to answer all the questions. Just do your best, be honest, and if you have trouble answering a question either leave it blank or make a note of your question in the answer space. When you come in to meet with us, we will go over the information you provided and addres any remaining question(s) before we file your case.)

3.)    Click HERE (www.bbbankrtupcy.com/cmispreadsheet.xls) to download a spreadsheet where you an input information that will help us calculate your “current monthly income”, which allows us to determine the type(s) of bankruptcy the law will allow you to file. Finish as much of it as you can and email it back to us at info@BBbankrupty.com

(your “current monthly income” or “CMI” is calculated based on the requirements of the Bankruptcy abuse prevention and consumer protection act of 2005 (the “BAPCPA”). The new law gives us a very specific formula to use when calculating your CMI. You may find that, after inputting all of the requested information into the spreadsheet, this figure differs from what you think your “real” monthly income is. Don’t Worry – your CMI for prposes of the bankruptcy laws is actually just the result we get after crunching though the formula congress gave us in the BAPCPA. We’ll be happy to go over the formula and the spreadsheet with you and answer your questions about any of these figures when you come in to meet with us.)

4.)    The new bankruptcy law (effective 10/16y/05)  requires consumers to get “credit counseling” before filing a chapter 7 or chapter 13 bankruptcy. When you call or e-mail us to set up your appointment, we will be happy to give you names and contact information for authorized credit counseling agencies.

(Note: we are not a “credit counseling agency,” nor do we have any relationship, business or otherwise, with any “credit counselor” or “credit counseling agency”. You are welcome to use any authorized credit counseling agency you choose.)
